Ajay Nagpal is a seasoned executive with 20+ years of experience in financial services. As the Chief Operating Officer of Millennium, an investment management firm with over $33 billion in assets under management, Ajay oversees various business areas of Millennium’s global activities. Millennium is a global investment management firm with more than 1,800 employees, over $32.5 billion in assets under management, and offices in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He works within a senior leadership team to help Millennium fulfill its mission to deliver the alternative investment industry’s highest quality returns to investors, and to maintain a commitment to their principles of integrity, discipline and excellence.
Ajay began his career at J.P. Morgan, eventually becoming a Managing Director responsible for Municipal Derivatives. He concluded his tenure at J.P. Morgan as the Head of Fixed Income Derivatives Marketing for Financial Institutions.
Ajay moved to Lehman Brothers in 2001. He began his career with the firm as Managing Director and Head of Liquid Market Sales in Fixed Income. Four years later, he became Global Head of Equities Sales and managed a staff of 800 people worldwide.
In 2008, Barclays purchased Lehman Brothers’ U.S. holdings. Ajay became Head of Prime Services following the transition and was a member of the management committee of the investment banking division. As Head of Prime Services Ajay was responsible for various business lines including Fixed Income Financing, Equity Financing and Prime Brokerage, Futures Clearing and Execution, Foreign Exchange Prime Brokerage and OTC Derivatives Clearing. Ajay also served as senior sponsor of Barclays’ LGBT employee network in the United States.
Ajay continues to be active in other capacities within the financial sector. He is a Board Member of the Managed Funds Association. He is also on the Board of Advisors at Echoing Green, a not-for-profit whose mission is to unleash the next generation of talent to solve the world’s biggest problems. Ajay is also on the President’s Council for Internships at Brown University.
Ajay studied International Relations and South Asian Studies at Brown University and graduated with honors in 1990. He attended Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and earned a Master of Public Policy in 1992.
Ajay resides in New Jersey with his wife of over 20 years. They are the proud parents of four children.
